Toronto, May 6, 2008 – The winners of the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children’s Book Awards have been selected. The Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children’s Book Awards are funded by the Ruth Schwartz Foundation. The administration of these awards is shared by the Ontario Arts Foundation, the Ontario Arts Council which manages the jury process, and the Canadian Booksellers Association whose members choose the short list of books.

Toronto, May 1, 2008 - The Association of Canadian Book Wholesalers claimed last week in meetings with book publishers and distributors that Canadian taxpayers and consumers are unwittingly subsidizing giant American library wholesalers. The strong Canadian dollar has sent some book buyers to the U.S. market.

CBA meets with Ontario Ministry of Education. Following up on letters, issued last fall by all three associations, CBA was able to organize a joint meeting to discuss with the Ministry our concerns following Premier McGuinty’s announcement during the fall election campaign that $80 million dollars in new funding for Ontario public school librarians and school libraries would be spent outside the public funding infrastructure through one sole supplier
